A Major Utility-scale BESS Programme — Hong Kong

Hong Kong's first utility-scale battery energy storage system, delivered as a portfolio of eight sub-projects at over 2,000 man-hours per month. Arup acts as Owner's Engineer for the programme, deployed at an existing power station site in support of the grid operator's decarbonisation strategy. With civil, geotechnical, MEP, sustainability, fire and digital teams all contributing, leadership needed a single, reliable view of effort, schedule and spend.

Bonnie provided the programme management and commercial reporting backbone for Arup's delivery across the sub-project portfolio, acting as the programme management hub between technical leads, directors and the client.

She coordinated the eight sub-project BESS programme spanning civil, geotechnical, MEP, sustainability, fire and digital teams. The role sat at the centre of the programme: tracking effort and schedule across workstreams and translating technical progress into a single view for directors and the client.

🤖 Automation & financial control

Bonnie built and maintained VBA timesheet automation used by 200+ staff together with Python-based financial tracking, enabling KPI-driven monitoring of cost, effort and schedule for leadership review. She ran the monthly invoicing and work-description amendment cycle across the linked work packages, and supported directors on contract administration, budgeting and scope control.

The automation cut the monthly reporting cycle from several days to minutes and enabled KPI-driven monitoring of cost, effort and schedule for leadership review. At the request of project leadership, she extended the same e-timesheet and PM/finance summary toolset to a separate PMO project — turning a one-off build into a reusable programme tool.
